I had an issue with a fridge. Basically the fridge leaked water and damaged my kitchen units. I tried to reject fridge from retailer and claim the cost of repairing the damaged units (total £1000 of which £500 was for the fridge) under the Sale of Goods Act. In the end my claim went via the Small Claims track mediation process and the retailer settled for only the cost of the fridge in mediation (i.e. £500). I was thinking that I could pursue the manufacturer for the cost of the damaged units (i.e. £500) under the Consumer Protection Act. I asked Citizens Advice and they said that a claim from the manufacturer would not be possible as I have no contract with the manufacturer. However, having read the Consumer Protection Act I don't think I would need a contract with the manufacturer to make a claim against them. I think the only limitation is that the damage suffered must be >£275 (which it is). Do others believe I might have a claim against the manufacturer for the cost of the damaged units under the Consumer Protection Act?
